Meet the Mobile Spyware That Can Take Over Your iPhone and Track Your Every Move
From: CultofMac, iLounge

A new report from Bloomberg notes that UK-developed FinFisher spyware, originally developed for government and law enforcement use, is capable of taking control of an iPhone and other mobile devices.1

Researchers at the University of Toronto Munk School of Global Affairs’ Citizen Lab discovered that FinFisher can secretly track a user’s location, monitor e-mails, text messages and calls, as well as turning on a device’s microphone.1

Apple’s strict approach to iOS software means that spyware very rarely makes its way onto our iPhones or iPads.2

A group of researchers from the University of Toronto Munk School of Global Affairs’ Citizen Lab have been investigating the FinFisher software, which has previously been used by malware activists in Bahrain to infect personal computers.2

Having Trouble Sleeping? Your Tablet or Smartphone Could Be to Blame
From: SoftPedia, Yahoo

A new study conducted by the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has revealed that using your iPad or iPhone prior to going to sleep might do you harm.1

Researchers at LRC have found that two-hour exposure to your iPhone and or iPad, which have self-luminous “backlit” displays, causes melatonin suppression.1

More from Mashable: Samsung Reveals Its First Windows RT Tablet This suppression, especially in teenagers, can lead to trouble sleeping at night, according to researchers led by Mariana Figueiro, director of the LRC’s Light and Health Program.2

“Our study shows that a two-hour exposure to light from self-luminous electronic displays can suppress melatonin by about 22%,” Figueiro says in a statement.2

From: iDownloadBlog, CultofMac, iPhoneHacks, VentureBeat, MacRumors, 9 to 5 Mac, SlashGear, Pad Gadget, MacGasm, Gizmodo, Pocket-Lint, iLounge, Electronista

According to Telegraph, the new AirPlay Technology dubbed AirPlay Direct will allow streaming devices like the iPhone or iPad to directly stream content to a set of speakers or other devices without a Wi-Fi network.1

Apple is planning to launch an enhanced version of its AirPlay streaming technology in September, according to a new report from The Telegraph.2

Apple is preparing to announce a version of AirPlay that doesn’t require people to connect to a Wi-Fi network first, says the Telegraph.3

The new version will require just speakers or a hifi and an iDevice ; the iPhone, iPod or iPad would form its own network to allow a direct connection and music playback4

The Telegraph reported Apple would unveil an update to its AirPlay platform at its rumored Sept. 12 media event alongside the next-generation iPhone.5
